a treasure trea gure chest and said aid that he felt that a railroad will come colne 1 4 chief executive spoke at the annual meeting 0 of f vernal chamber of commerce held at 7 30 p m iq in the hotel vernal A total of ed the dining rooms to hear governor clyde report on preterit present and future resource development in the uintah dasin dabin HE SAID that the four major problems that had slowed exploitation of the vast miner at al resources of this region were lack of power water and transportation and re mot enesa eness governor clyde said paid your tine fine newspaper the no vernal express carried an extensive tory story about the beginning of bf the phosphate development in its march 17 issue I 1 am sure that you are all thoroughly familiar with that story storn andl and the story Is accurate e but there are further 4 i and salu bigger plans for the phosphate development THE PLANS for pho phate development go far bep be yond even the three unit ton program for acid grade a concentrates I 1 have been e e n reliably informed that stauffer chemical tod assod kited isted companies are seriously considering two other major operations oni ona Is for a large 1 phate fertilizer plant at the mine this would be si a plant of to tons ton wa an nuil nual capacity which Is larter larger than the present garfield plant A plant of this sir ozo would A he A 1 tons tonal of phosphate t rock per year which would 41 be in addition to the tonnage to be shipped from the mine to the garfield plant construction of this I 1 pr projected objected plant Is dependent on the establishment of ran rail road service into the basis i which I 1 feel in the face of this potential development will come the output of this fertilizer plant would be mainly shipped to the west north cen cent 4 aral states to mississippi to new mexico and to west texas A plant in this area could ship to them once the railroad is established much more adai advantageously than the present garfield plant the second potential under consideration is an elemental phosphate plant also near the site of the mine this operation requires art in electric furnace which obviously will depend on the availability of large quantities of electric power at a competitive cost the potential source of this power is obvious as the wark goes ahead on flaming gorge corge dam 1 I BELIEVE the uintah ba DH sin in may also be entering a new eta era of natural gas production geologists have told me that really big things are am expected in gas production out here and the recent discovery at chapeta chakita wells may be the beginning of a vast program I 1 the future la in liquid petrol eura cum in the development ot of the fabulous oil and as phallic sands unique galson lie ite and the many other mineral resources which the dasin basin soil poil contains is bright and promising agriculture Is still bremen bously important and grow grovv ing I 1 think it was particular ly fitting in view of the role played by you
