Show FRUIT TREES PLANTED AGAINST THE WALLS OF HOUSES IN FRANCE with the A I 1 U F france sept 7 1918 dear mother back from tile the lines alnes and all rested up well I 1 have finally straightened out on my cay job and ank am getting along fine now I 1 am sure proud of my company every one of them are just as much to me as aa my old squad used to be I 1 am up for another advancement agian the captain has been considering all by recommendations and they have proved out pretty good lie he told mo last night that he was going to send me to officers training school I 1 will either get that or a trip back to the states as an all instruct toi I 1 would like to stay where I 1 am for a while yet because it Is just judt getting so now that I 1 can handle hande it pretty good at last we are out of those mountains and back to a country that chasn t so many hills we had bad quite a long train ride and saw lots n more pretty country we got to see an enemy shot down don yesterday don t dare tell you any more about it 1 ihla I his place we are in now was sure a mystery to us when we first came hare almost every door yard has a pear tree growing up against the wall of the house they keep them trimmed and trained so the limbs ambs turn square corners and run right up the wall at one place they have an apple tree trimmed and trained so 80 that it makes a hedge the apple vine has apples ou ott it as big as my two fists they have lots ot of fruit but they thresh their grain by hand arid and their horses are nearly all cows cowa one thing they have here that they haven t had in most of the places we have been in and that Is chickens some of the boys bought some chickens and a goose and got a I 1 rench lady to cook them while we are in the lines we have it pretty hard but we sure eat while in a rest camp well I 1 hope everyone at home are feeling a as well as I 1 am because I 1 never felt better in my life love to all W W 0 FARRELL |
