Show flee ard wheal the meeting of the directors of the uintah county farm bureau and representative farmers last saturday Satu iday resulted in an important decision regarding tho the recent offer of the government in assuring ulu tah basin farmers a market for their wheat and the he establishing of a fair and equitable price tor this years hay and oat crop tho opinion of farmers farr oera present at the meeting was that while an assurance of 2 00 a bushel for wheat at watson was better than tho the recent predl predictions ellone hold held forth it would be decidedly advantageous to the farmers to allow the local mill to grind their wheat into flour and to send the flour out the reason reabon set bet forth for this was that this plan would save considerable delay and expense in eliminating the sorting of the wheat heat into the various grades ru further r reasons set forth for allowing the mill to purchase and grind the wheat waa mas that products byproducts by thus secured could be used tor for fattening hogs th the production of which is an important feature with a great number of farmers in uintah county this fall I 1 ahe meeting which was presided over by chairman sterling D colton was called primarily to consider the liberal action of the government in offering fo pay transfer and transportation por tation charges on wheat from watson to mack colo assuring farmers in the basin 2 00 a bushel tor for first grade wheat the ot of iclal letter from the office ot of the pie utah food administrator was rend read in which tho the regulations were ride ride ti 19 to the prices tor the various grades grade no 1 would receive 2 00 a bushel grade no 2 1 97 a bushel grade no 3 1 83 93 a bushel grades 4 and 5 prices will he be determined on the grade of the grain payment will be made at chicago after the wheat to Is received there rebates will be made when the grain Is sent in sacks on discussion the situation was fully brought out it was argued that when transportation charges afire aera paid from vernal to watson and the expense and delay in sorting and grading it would be tar far better to petition tile the food it tr atlon ration to allow the local mill to grind the wheat ilog hog production in uintah county this year will amount to an important industry and the b byproducts products derived from the grinding of 1 f the wheat heat will be necessary to fat fatten ten up the porkers corkers it was also brought out that the ma bority of the wheat will fall below first grade another reason given tor for local grinding into flour was that farmers would have to wait a considerable time before receiving any money for their grain nd where several shippers crops were in one car and where variation was made in tile the grade an equal distribution would have to be made among all A petition to the food administration expressing appreciation for what hag haa already been done but explaining pla ining local conditions more fully was read on motion the petition was authorized to be signed by directors ot of the uintah county farm bureau and ordered sent As to some relief for the hog sit nation county agent iless hess of duchesne county who was as p present ament stated that in a recent interview in salt lake with the authorities it was said that no immediate relief could be assured lie ile admitted that the situation looked serious enos enoa bennion stated that while he was in salt lake recently he called at the office of the food administrator and explained the whole situation lip HP explained to the officials that the farmers in uintah county had made extra effort to in creaso the production of hogs bogs and that they desired some sort of pro as to price ile he urged that an inspector be appointed for this county if for no longer period at least three months mr dennion stated that at that time nothing could be promised but he was nas assured that everything possible would be done to find some solution of the problem lie he explained that he recently received a letter in which he was nas told that the matter had been reported to washington and that some immediate action was promised although a good hay bay crop was assured in this county county agent told the farmers farmere present that the price would not go down as other sections were erpf a severe shortage ile he stated that this was especially true in cache county the great dairy county and which aich county pays the highest price for butter tat fat in this sonnee tion ur mr wl owr read a letter from montana in which it was stated that owing to scarcity of hay in that region it had be b come noce nece essary to dispose of dairy cattle an offer was made tor for uin tali county farmers to purchase these cattle at very reasonable rates it wag waa also intimated that there would be several herds of cattle come in hero liere for grazing tile the bureau went on record as setting the price of good marketable hay at 10 a ton it was explained that this price was very reasonable in comparison to advances that have been mode made in other lines when the discussion turned to oats a price of 0 three cents per pound was favored and adopted it waa pointed out that there was a decrease in this years crop compared with that of last year protection to the purchaser vaa ana ass when it was agreed that the price of three cents per pound should apply to good marketable oats 11 when the subject ct cf honey was waa brought before the session there was considerable humming between bee and farmers geo declared that in his opinion the price of honey at 10 a can was an exorbitant price to charge and declared that the attention i of i the government should be directed to this at times he said bees from neighboring r places would come I 1 in his garden and field and would drive him from hla his work joab collier of the uintah county bee keepers association said abo bee keepers of this cott county rity hade not set net the theorice price but that ami pout elde company had bad contracted neary nearly balf tho the output of this county at this price and it was a fair and legitimate business offer to the bee keepers he stated however that those same companies turned around and charged the actual consumer as high a price as aa 60 cents a pound this he considered unfair county agent iless of ducheane Duch eana county said that bee keepers in his bla county had received offers of 21 cents a pound for their honey from several sources ile he said however that in his opinion th these esa contractors oftentimes were profiteers when they turned around and sold eold it an exorbitant profit to consumers in the cities it was decided by the meeting that nothing should be done by the farm bureau in adopting prices but that this was a matter for the bee keepers association it was urged however that bee keepers should sell honey at a little reduction to neighbor farmers especially when the bees feed on his chopa and at times prove to be a hindrance in working immediate eradication of weeds vaa aas favored by the bureau and to this end a committee consisting of E knos no a dennion Benn lon forest and clayborn claghorn Clay horn bramhall Brim liall were appointed to take the matter up with the county commissioners in enforcing the existing law which provides that where weeds ebirt and where owners are notified to do away with them and they neglect to do so BO it may be done for them and they will he be charged for the labor performed the special weeds upon which work was desired done was the burdock Cockle burr canadian thistle and Milk milkweed eed it was suggested that farmers combine in eradicating these theae pests and make it a hobby to strike down a weed whenever they se see it it was wag stated that august was a good month in which to start an anti weed campaign as all weeds haven t as yet formed seeds sheep killing hilling dogs were discussed and the immediate solution offered m was as to I 1 kill them farmers were cautioned however to use the utmost precaution and whenever a female dog could be killed to do so BO the only course the law provides in this matter to is that where a sheep la Is killed by a dag art indemnity may be claimed b the of the sheep where a dog Is killed the owner may collect it was stated however not all sheep were being killed by dogs dog but some coyotes and wolves were A ere prowling around the farm bureau went on record for backing the county fair and immediate steps stepa were made to form a 4 committee to push the work along A member from each of the eleven farm
