Show MAJORITY FOR BETTER SCHOOL PLANTS r vote on school ilond iosue carries in fare face of strenuous opposition the vote on the issue of bonds of wet tuo uintah school district resulted ln in a victory tori for the progressive element of the district the board of education after a most moat careful survey of the school chool plants of the entire county decided upon the amount necessary to put all the schools in good comfortable for table buildings with conditions sanitary aud and up to the standard required by the state school officials official and the state board of health knowing the requirements of the district the board went before the people of the county and explained the condition of the district in the matter of school buildings and equipment answered all questions published every thing possible upon the subject for the information of the people and left the matter up to them outside of giving the people of each school except those so BO remote they could not be reached all possible information in public meetings and sending oui explanatory printed matter no campaign was conducted on the other hand opponents as a rule did not attend meetings where board members were present or attempt ady any open and fair criticism of the bond issue in nearly every case by means of misrepresentation and appeals to prejudice a large amount of opposition to the bond was aroused among the uninformed so apparent was this opposition that a defeat of the bond issue by a vote of two to one was freely predicted it Is interesting to analyze the past att attitude etude upon progressive public propositions of most of the opponents of the bond issue and to compare their records with nith that of those who favored it the board of education is proud of the character of the people who as a rule were found to be positively in favor of the bond essae it Is true there were a few who in the past have stood for public progress who were aga against trist the proposition charges that the board has taken this means of raising revenue for purposes ol 01 graft were made in answer to this charge we freely say any that our hand ling of the public school funds are a matter of record and are open all tile the time to lo public investigation it t Is not necessary for the people to take the word of the members of the board of education as to whether they are handling the funds economically or honestly the books are available at any moment for either inspection or audit it is in the purpose of the board to have the building done this season and hope to have the work accomplished before the beginning of the next school year there is little doubt that all fair minded people will be glad when educational facilities throughout the county are more nearly equalized had the bond issue been defeated it would have taken years to bring about anything approaching equality the taxpayers will never feel the burden as the levy i III be so BO small while the expenditure of this large um sum of money will make lively times this summer in the building trade the following table shows allows the vote in detail i for adalu t 1 1 vernal 93 78 macager 27 65 16 10 16 naples 36 26 jensen 23 24 dry fork 14 0 lapoint 37 9 bennett 37 1 alta A alta 29 4 Rand lotto 7 14 manilla totals plurality 81 returns from manilla not yet in cannot change the result |
