Show BRITISH DAY EXERCISES IN tabernacle british day exercises at the stake tabernacle last sunday afternoon were not as well attended as they otherwise would have been had they not been held on easter sunday the beautiful day impelled many to go easterlng eastering however those who were present heartily enjoyed the exercises the attendance was made up mostly of men and women from the old country and to them the occasion was ono one of the greatest interest joseph 11 II gardiner who had been appointed by governor simon bamburger chairman of the county committee took charge of the exercises and made an introductory talk in which he be recounted the circumstances leading up to the british day celebration james 11 wallis spoke of the english people and their intense love tor for good government their industry thrift and great love for home he spoke of his early litfen in london and in an interesting manner referred to the historic tower of london british museum and other repositories of En glands glory rev geo A downey said he had been born under the english flag but loved the land of hla his adoption with as great a love as any native born american could possibly have tor for the land ot of his birth he recounted the intense devotion of the peoples in the various colonies of great britian and paid them a well deserved tribute for the noble manner in which they had contributed of their treasury add life for the successful prosecution of the war president don B colton in an eloquent address told the story of eng lands part in the world war paying a tribute to her navy which had not only kept the seas open so BO as to safely transport american troops ammunition and supplies to the people of france and belgium but whose ships had been loaned to this government to carry our soldiers across the mighty deep nothing in history compares with glands En naval triumph ile he referred with much gratification to the change of feeling that had taken place in the hearts of american men and women tor for the mother country and looked forward to the time not far distant when there would be no more war but peace a universal brotherhood of man during the exercises several musical numbers were rendered A brass quartet was excellently rendered by wallace cragun charles lewis F wilkins and merlo merle bennion A duet by jennes jennea and gladys dennion and a ornet cornet solo by wallace aragun the blue bells bella of scotland made up the he rest of the program |
