Show Sports Here and There by Al Ablett Now that the Layne win over Charles has quieted down, they are talking about a Layne La-Starza La-Starza fight in Ogden for October. Octo-ber. I think it would be a good fight for Rex and of course it is a shot LaStarza should be glad to get. For Rex, if he could beat the New York boy they couldn't keep him away from a championship champ-ionship fight. Of course a win for LaStarza would put him in line. For the fans it would be a good fight either way. Marciano and Walcott have signed for Philadelphia. The reason rea-son New York didn't get the fight is that Walcott's manager can't get a license on account of his criminal record. Now if boxing box-ing is to clean house, every state should do the same. But it is going go-ing to be a tough job if the states don't stick together. The fight should draw pretty good anywhere any-where because people like the boy that can hit. Rocky can do that, and of course there is a chance that he will get careless and Pappy will tear his head off with that left hook. Baseball is drawing to a close and the local entry in the Industrial Indus-trial league can't win, but they are going to have plenty to say about who does. At present Magna Mag-na and Provo are up there with Helper right behind. Probably right down to the wire. Salt Lake is fighting to get into in-to the play-offs, but it doesn't look like they can make it. Po-catello Po-catello and Billings are in a dog fight. In the American league it looks like the Yankees and Cleveland with Boston having an outside chance. Casey Stengel has done a great job of having his two aces ready for the big series, and Cleveland ' will face Rashi and Reynolds in their series. Casey lost a couple to the White Sox but he wouldn't use either one of his aces. Cleveland and Boston Bos-ton were cutting each others throat so the Yankees could do this in order to win the Cleveland Cleve-land series. In the National league it looks like Brooklyn at last. But if Mag-hies Mag-hies back is in shape those Giants will be rough right down to the wire. See you next week. AL O- |
