Show irl BAD CONDITION CONDI TId COUNTY COURT HOUSE NEEDS carpenters put to work bracing brabin the roof and weak parts ale chanice claim a poor job it has taken uintah county a long time to discover the fact but it is none the less true that in the erection of the county court house the contractors did not give the county a square deal those who often visit and look with admiration upon the imposing structure have in the past had little idea that at any moment during a wind storm the roof might fall with a crash and it is doubtful it if the walls walla would stand the strain A mild sensation was sprung at the meeting of the board of county commissioners last monday by county clerk hacking ile he stated that the united states land office has been flooded ever since the late mild weather began because of leakage from the roof the land office officials naturally entered a protest to the county clerk against this condition and in an attempt to find the cause of this difficulty the sad plight of the building was discovered no sooner had mr hacking made his way to the garret over the district courtroom court room then he saw at a glance that the trusses were bent beat and twisted in every direction by the imbese weight of the roof this fact led him to investigate vesti gate farther and an devery every thing he examined revealed defects the joints in the trusses are defective the roof is a mere shell inadequately braced and at the time of mr if hackings ac kings visit was in momentary danger of a collapse the result was that a force of carpenters was given employment employs nt last wednesday with orders to make the roof secure this can easily be done with a nominal expenditure many of our most experienced mechanics pronounce the work on the court house roof the most unsatisfactory they have ever seen on a building of any an y consequence consey c one said it is a positive disgrace that a building of that magnitude t should be practically ruined by such a worthless shell of a roof since the above discovery many of our citizens have examined the building and are united in their verdict relative to the danger of delay in making the roof secure the work of the imported contractors is meeting its much merited condemnation should anyone of our readers doubt the gravity of tho the situation we have chronicled herewith we only say kindly step up and examine for yourselves we have not told it all by any means the brick work of the tower is cracking badly and is considered by mechanics to be very unsafe |
