principles the democratic party now as in the P past ast deserves the support of all the citizens in the state it has always stood for honest and legitimate politics and against the reactionary course of unwise leaders in the republican patty party and the efforts of those who have h ave insistently sought to inject religious and other improper influence into political discussions and party conduct while it makes no war upon conscience or creed but upon the contrary is the defender of personal rights including the rights of conscience and freedom of reli religion gio yet it demands that there shall be no union of church and state and that not only in letter but inspirit tile the provisions of the constitution embodying this declaration shall be observed we believe in the complete tion of cb church and state as aa expressed in our c constitution and we pledge ourselves t to 0 a faithful and conscientious observance of tho the samo same and in this connection we it clare that the checton to the united states senate of an apostle of the so called dominant church was imprudent and unwise and has inflicted upon this common of utah and its people injury from which they cannot recover for many years to como come in this connection alo ve ne condemn and denounce both tho the republican and Arne american rican parties of utah tile former for its impassioned appeal to all mormons cormons Nit without hout re regard ard to former political affiliations to vote tho the republican bli an ticket and th the e latter for I a similar appeal to all non gormong to voto veto the the commonwealth and the welfare of our people the democrats of utah are arc phoud of their state of its fo foun deia is and of the industry patriotism and intelligence of its people with a population possess mg ing qualities and habits which mark in such preeminent degree the people of a progressive commonwealth ard witt with a state enjoying suh such boundless and varied resources the progress and pros of utah should now be greater than it is and its influence in the world should be stronger sti the reason for this retardation of the states growth is obvious at the door of the republican party lies liea much of the shame for the unfortunate condition now existing in utah we demand that vie the causes producing these conditions shall be removed that local strife and bitterness shall yield to an enlightened and pio gres sive sentiment the great mass of the people of utah desire peace and the maintenance of those conditions politically and relations socially that will result in concord and in bringing into happy rivalry all that is best NN ith in all to the end that our state will oc cupy a proud ond and pi progressive position in the nation we view with loua of danger to our state the recent attempt of the machine to influence one of the judges of this state in ane of republican machine machise politics we favor such national legislation as will compensate those who in the black hawk and in the indian wars for their heroic and invaluable services we recognize nize william jennings brian aa the greatest living private citizen and the leading exponent of the principles of true democracy and recognize in him a fearless leader justly entitled to the absolute confidence of every loyal citizen and we WB hereby indorse him as the logical candidate for the democratic party for the next president of the united states we believe in the equality of all men before the law and abst assort rt that all men gre are entitle 4 to tile the full enjo ment of a all shall pas laws z establishing reasonable maximum rates of chaides for transportation of passengers and freight for correcting abuses and preventing discrimination mid extortion in rates of freight and passenger tariffs by the different railroads rai loads and other common carriers in the state and shall enforce such laws by adequate penalties we pledge ourselves to support the cause of irrigation in the west and insist that laws be enacted which will w III grant easements for public roads dittli ditt li es ea canals and reservoirs within forest reservations the same as now fixed by fegi legislation upon the public domain we pledge our candidates to enact such laws at the coming session of the legislature as put into effect the constitutional amendment concerning the initiative and
