| Show CANYON ROUTE SELECTED the latest maps mapa issued by the moffat road have only ono one route outlined through tho the canyons of the yampa and green rivers all maps had two routes outlined ono one through the canyon and one around to the south of blue mountain tins this is 13 pretty conclusive evidence that the canyon route has haa been elected of course from the green river gorge the road can build across this country almost anywhere this being acin what railroad raili oad engin engineers cers call an open country the express takes note of these moves with considerable satisfaction about three years ago before the surveys were made when the express was doing all it could to attract att abtin attin n tion to tho the i river canyon route it received the horse laugh in great shape chape by about halt hall the population of this valley who claimed that the canyon was so BO crooked and rough that a bird could not fly through it wo we had thesalis the satisfaction faction of bebing tho moffat surveyors complete tho the survey through tho c anyon and saying baying that it nis was acris lias ible and now of seeing only the one route marked on their maps where here formerly there were two we now say oay its as wo have frequently said becore that it is 13 possible sible to get the main line of the moffat road through ashley valley and vernal the d distance is tance from the mouth of the gorge to the point N her e the roid will strike the du chesna ii 19 about the same either cither by the river route or through tho the valley A water grade is always breff preferable rable but they lose their grade grada in following down green river and a climb up the duchesne while they would maintain their grade in crossing through this alley although there would be cashes to trestle and cuts to make through ridges all that is 13 needed is the proper puah on the pat t of the people of vernal and the valley think what it would mean for vernal to be on the main line of the moffat at road with possibly a diN division ision point where several hundred men would be employed in shops lound houe and switch yards instead of being left off from 12 to 15 miles to one side bide of the main line if you don t think it is possible to build a railroad across this valley from the gorge to the duchesne just take a trip over oer the uintah railway to mack or the midland or D R G over the rookies and you will come to the conclusion that the cars cara can climb a ladder to the moon |
