Show WILL EMPLOY detectives wasatch baratch county officials request aid from gov cutler I 1 ro roni in desere t nem non m according to a communication received by gov cutler today from county clerk J C jensen of wasatch county the officials of that county are unable to secure sufficient eNi evidence dence ti against parties who sell chikey to indians indans on the uintah reservation to convict them and their efforts thus far have resulted in only ono one conviction which wag that of a young man mail whom the shei alf says placed a bottle of whiskey on an indians saddle the fellow plead guilty and is now servin serving his time the officers of the county meet with great difficulty in securing evidence as aa the indiana Indians are unwilling witnesses against tho the guilty parties the county commissioners of that county are of the opinion that it is only possible to reach tho the offenders of the tha law in one way and that Is ia to enlist the of two detectives for a sufficient length of time to secure the necessary evidence against the most flagrant violators of tho the law this would mean an expense which the county can not at tills this time meet without aid from froin the state but tho the clerk says that the county will employ the detectives it if tho state will see that it is 13 reimbursed for tho the expenditure in that connection gov cutler has replied to the communication muni cation and instructed the bleik to secure the services of the necessary detectives tec tives and lie he will leco le commend to the next legislature Legisla tuie tuLe that wasatch county be reimbursed for the money expended in this matter in connection the same affair capt hall of the white rock agency has written gov cutler that he will be in washington in a short time and will take the matter up with tile the commissioner of indian affairs with alth a view of securing as si stance from the government for tho the state |
