Show INCREASE A s H I 1 IN NEWSPAPER PRICES the new york city papers on the of august raised the dailies their prices to a five cent standard the advance wo ald have taken place ere now but for the disinclination of one lish ment to venture upon the experiment ament the increased and inere increasing ashi cost of all the materials that enter into the manufacture 10 of a newspaper has made tills this step a positive necessity ces sity and one which can no longer be deferred the Chi chicago cao 0 I 1 and pittsburg publishers have advanced the price of their daily papers to twenty five rive cents per week ex the above is but a single item on this 8 subject which we see is going the rounds throughout the united states the newspapers for the reasons stated have been compelled to increase their prices or stop their issues we ourselves have experienced the same trouble and the enormous cost of printing materials added to the freight we have to pay presses heavily upon the VEDETTE we have resisted the pressure determined if possible not to enhance our prices but we fear we shall have i to do so ere long in justice to ourselves |
