of the alie army found vicksburg 0 much stion stronger sti mer than was expected and as nothing 0 to tile contrary is stated this incorrect idea of tile the strength 0 th of vicksburg doubtless obtained in tile the war Depart rr ent itself two attacks on vicksburg were made on the and of december our loss was killed wounded and missing z at arkansas AtAi Ai kansas post which our troops captured january I 1 ith we lost killed wounded and IT missing 0 we took at the latter place prisoners II 11 pieces of cannon small arms rounds of ammunition and animals gen grant now took the
