The Uintah Ute junior varsity team suffered their closest win of the season when they nipped Pleasant Grove, 30-26, last week, but they went back to their slaughtering ways as they massacred Mountain View in Vernal, Wednesday by the score of 45-2. Uintah 98 pounder Chris Smith blanked blank-ed Tom Dickson. 7-0. Smith grabbed a takedown in the first round and added a reversal and three-point near fall in the third round. The Utes' Steve Navin, 105, gained shutout number two when he blanked Ryan Busch, 6-0. Navin leaped out to a 2-0 lead in the first round on a takedown and scored a reversal and two-point two-point near fall in the second round for a 6-0 lead. P.tountain View acquired its only points of the meet when Mark Augustus, 112, Uintah and David Kresgei tied at 4-4. Both tusslers scored four points each in the second round. The Utes returned to the winning wrestling world when Mike Smith. 119, thumped Brian Janda, 5 to 1. The first round ended in a scoreless lie, but Smith scored a neutral and takedown in the second se-cond round for a 3-0 lead and added a takedown in the third round for a 5-1 lead. Four shutout wins in a row by the Uintah Uin-tah Utes increased the home team's lead to 24 to 2. Larson Caldwell blanked Jim Francis, 126, 4 to 0 on a takedown in the first round and a reversal in the third round. Devin Bailey, 132, scored a takedown in the first round and a reversal rever-sal in the second round for a 4-0 win over Tom Robertson. Uintah's Gary Murray, 138, blanked Bryan Benson, 6-0. Murray scored points in every round as he pocketed a takedown in the first round, two-point near fall in the second round and a reversal in the third round. Larry Huber, 145, shutout Robert Beckstrand, 9 to 0. Huber scored a takedown in the first round and added a neutral, takedown and stalling point in the second round. Huber scored a stalling point and was awarded a double stalling point in the third round. However, the six points didn't do Twitchell any good as he was thumped by Ute Chad Bedell, 13-6. The match was 0-0 after one round, but Bedell scored a reversal and three-point three-point near fall in the second round for a 5-3 lead. Bedell added a reversal, two near falls and a neutral in the third round. The Utes won the final three matches with pins. Mike Shuigh, 167, pinned Ron Nielson with 36 seconds left in the second round. Slaugh grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first round on a takedown. Scott Gardner, Gard-ner, 185, jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first round on a takedown and three-point near fall and then pinned Brian Winget with 1 :24 left in the second round. David Weeks, heavyweight, pinned Todd Sorensen with four seconds to go in the second round. Sorensen grabbed a 4-2 lead in the first round on a reversal and near fall after Weeks had scored a takedown lor a 2-0 lead. A number of exhibition matches took place before the junior varsity matches. Troy Thomas, 98, pinned Kevin Anderson Ander-son in 2: 14 and Steve Conlley pinned Nick Snyder in 2:36. David Gurr, 119, pinned Tim Broaderick in 4:19 and Joe Newell, 126, downed Jeff Nickolson, 7-2. Jerry Tingey, 126, pinned Doug Howell in 4:20. George Cook, 132. downed Mc Rae, 5-1 and Brad Dickson, 143, pinned Gieseter in 4:47. Rick Porter, 155, bombed Aaron Ashcoff, 13-3 and Rod Hilkey, 185. pinned pinn-ed Lopez, in 1:26.
