Show YOUTH ALCOHOLISM COUNCIL members at West Junior High School and those instrumental in the council's creation front Tracy Lisa Michelle Alcoholism council to be honored The Youth Alcoholism Council at West Junior High School is traveling to Salt Lake City Friday to receive a pair of plaques in recognition of their for- Christina and Shelly Back Liz Cindy Keven Nanette Dee Nets Carlson and mation and endeavors in the alcohol prevention The plaques are being awarded the thirteen member group by Matheson's office and Mayor Ted Wilson of Salt I-ake The ceremonies in the capital city highlight a day which will see the group visiting various alcohol prevention and rehabilitation The trip is designed to provide them with a better understanding of their goals and They will also meet the First Presidency of the Mormon The group was formed in October of 1978 with all of its members being in the seventh although the program is designed for students in all junior high school The first Youth Alcoholism Council was formed n Salt Lake City in 1973 by Sandy co-founder of the Cottage Program The council was formed because of the increasing alcoholism rate in teenagers and to better inform the students about the alcoholism problem and what each one of the students can do to prevent The local council completed their nine-week training period and is currently conducting presentations in the junior high school system in the Roosevelt |
