P ONeil O'Neil has been nominated as a candidate for Mother of the Year from the Vernal area The sponsoring organization the Merry Mrs Club feels that she is an outstanding outstanding outstanding out out- standing candidate to symbolize mothers Mrs ONeil O'Neil will be representing this area at the Awards Assembly set for Aprils April's 8 to be held in inthe inthe inthe the Assembly Hall on Temple Square in Salt Lake City DOROTHY ONeil O'Neil was born in Provo but received her education in Missoula Montana where she graduated from the University of Montana with degrees in Spanish and Library Science Following graduation she was Acquisitions Librarian at the University for three years until she became an officer in the WAVES and served for two for two years in the Naval District offices in San Francisco Francisco- She m married C. C Brian ONeil O'Neil in the Salt Lake 1945 In moved to Vernal to distribute Salt Lake newspapers and later purchased the Credit Bureau Dureau of of Vernal which she has managed for the last five years Mrs ONeil O'Neil has been an active contributor to the community having served for seven years ears on the Selective Service many years in H 4 club work as a leader aleader and key leader She was president of of Central School PTA in 1960 and for several years has been in Cub Scouting as a den leader den leader coach and as Director of Cub Scouting in Vernal Stake This service was recognized by Utah National Parks Council in 1973 with the award of the coveted Silver Fawn equivalent of oC the Silver Beaver SHE SHO HAS liAS held many many executive positions in the IDS Church such as Primary counselor Stake president for ten years Ward Relief Society President for 12 years and Stake Relief Society secretary for six years jears ears Her husband was a member of the stake presidency for many years is isnow isnow isnow now serving as bishop of Vernal Third Ward and she has supported him in these callings Her lIer children are are Mrs Darwin Peggy Wareing an elementary teacher in Blackfoot Idaho Mrs Kenneth Brenda French Los Angeles Calif Mrs Preston Marilyn Crofts Westland Michigan Michael ONeil O'Neil administrator of oC Convalescent Hospital South Pasadena California i Connie ONeil O'Neil an elementary school teacher in s str tr N h 1 a. a s t will be can can- fo r for Mother Blackfoot Idaho and Kelly ONeil O'Neil employed by Mountain Bell Telephone Company in Vernal inVernal All four daughters have earned teaching degrees and Michael a degree in psychology from Crom Brigham Young University Four children have been married in the Temple and Michael served a mission to Mexico Both sons received their Eagle Scout award because of the interest in Scouting shown in their home Seven descendants call Dorothy grandmother They range in age from seven to six months Believing that travel is an important part of education the O'Neils have traveled widely They took their children on a number of extended trips in the United States traveling to several Worlds World's Fairs and also into Canada and Mexico as far south as Acapulco and the Yucatan peninsula They themselves have traveled to Europe several times to the Holy Land twice and to Russia Mrs ONeil O'Neil has given travel talks to a number of oC church and club groups sharing her knowledge and experiences Mrs Lloyd Winward District Chairman of the Utah Mothers Association believes that tha t Dorothy is an outstanding nominee to represent this area because of her time long-time service in the community in her church and to her family |
