Show C r iE ny By Ur Dr Wayne Reid iteM Superintendent School district scores very well on national test The Uintah School District has been testing each child in our district on the b basis of the nationally standardized California Achievement Test CAT for forthe forthe forthe the past several y years rs At first the results were not good Last year we made dramatic improvement and this year with the help of the districts district's moval to minimal competencies in each grade trade level and a corps of dedicated teachers and principals we have accomplished the goals we have set out to achieve What this means to parents and students alike is that the schools in the Uintah School District are accountable to the public for the products we produce produce pro pro- duce for entrance into our adult society We care about each and every child in our attendance area and make a commitment commitment com com- to keep on improving These national tests contain a series of tests that measure a students student's ability to use basic skills that are important to him in many things he does every day Section no 1 deals with reading vocabulary section no 2 with reading comprehension section no 3 with computational computational computational com com- mathematics section no 4 with concepts of mathematics section no 5 with problems in mathematics section no 6 with fractions section no 7 with capitalization section no 8 with punctuation in language section no 9 with language usage and structure section no 10 with spelling The above information is taken from Level 3 of Form A of or the tests The total district average of all elementary schools showed an increase in the first grade of 18 to 20 2nd grade 26 to 29 3rd grade 36 to 40 grade from 45 to 46 grade from 48 to 56 grade from 58 to 60 The total district average of or all secondary secondary secondary dary schools showed an increase in the grade from 60 to 70 grade from 66 to 83 grade from 78 to 80 lOth grade from 88 to 96 grade from 94 to and grade to Although our secondary schools still need some further improvement we have made considerable growth When providing the public with these test results we should keep in mind that the Uintah School District is one of the few who do so in order that our patrons may be well informed as to the academic accomplishments of our youth In addition many schools in the secondary programs only test college bound youth and C for alternative alternative alternative alter alter- native schools or alternative programs within the school wt which ith h moves their average higher We have made no attempt attempt attempt at at- tempt to do such feeling that we should be accountable for all students in the academic areas needed for successful entry into the adult society For further information regarding e each ch grade by school we encourage you to watch for our Newsletter to be issued to all box holders and mailboxes in the Uintah District in the very near future |
