Show ir h ii w I IA A r- r rI I J I I J J l lh 4 h s r t r rt t THE TOE string band west of the Mississippi is the Deseret String Band Concertinas banjo Violin and guitar make American folk tunes American folk music to set toes tapping Jan 13 The Deseret String Band four musicians from Salt Lake City who perform Americas America's traditional folk music will appear in concert Friday January 13 at 8 pm p.m. in the Union High School auditorium in Roosevelt The program is presented by the Roosevelt Community Fine Arts Council and the Utah Rural Arts Consortium Some of the stomping foot-stomping music performed by the band is bluegrass but much of it is older dating from music the early Utah settlers brought with live Members left to right Leonard Coulson banjo Ron Kane fiddler Hal Cannon concertina Rick McClure McClure Mc- Mc Clure guitarist them from other parts of the nation or from other countries IN TilE THE FOUR years since the band formed it has developed a large following in Utah including the production of two playing long albums of their music In addition they have warmed audiences at the San Diego Folk Festival the Great American Weekend in Spokane and at the National Folk Festival at Farm just outside of Washington DC D.C. They have toured extensively in England Ireland and Canda A television camera crew from in Salt Lake City will accompany accompany accompany ac ac- company the band to Roosevelt to film scenes for or a feature program on the Deseret String Band on their Extra II show They will be shooting during a workshop for high school students on folk olk music history and during the performance w I Tickets are 2 for adults and for students available at the door |
