| Show School board votes activities cutback The Uintah School Districts District's Board of Education unanimously voted to support the Society of Superintendents Superintendent's recommendation to cut back on the activities that students throughout the state participate in each year In efforts to cut down on activities in all areas that cut into time at school for participating students the Society of Superintendents have compiled a list of recommendations they plan to present presen the High School Activities Association at a future meeting The vote came during their monthly bi meeting held March 20 at the district offices Another superintendents meeting scheduled earlier in the week was to center around such non-athletic non events as forensics drama speech music I sAny Any recommendations from this meeting will likewise go to the athletics association INCLUDED IN their list were the maximum number of games that can be played time limits for practice time and season play a number of qualifiers for state tate meets placement of golf and tennis on a co educational coeducational basis and simultaneous meets in boys and girls events The recommendations call for limiting the number of games in basketball and football in 18 and 9 respectively plus state tournament and play offs Wrestling would be confined to 15 dual meets and or tournaments plus the region and state tournaments Baseball would be limited to a maximum of 10 games excluding state tournaments and would be scheduled to begin their their- their games games one week following the final finall basketball game or state stat tournament It was pointed out in t the c. c list Of f recommendations that the coaches in the state met and unanimously voted to support a move to summer baseball THEIR THEIn FINAL recommendations gives individual districts the right to further curtail their schools in additional additional additional ad ad- areas according to their needs and desires ie i.e. limitation of competitive competitive competitive com com- games or meets held in a given activity prevent any given team participating participating participating par par- in 2 or 3 games or meets a week eliminating certain activities and cutting travel The recommendations if approved by the Activities Association would have a great impact in the Vernal area since students participating in activities activities activities ac ac- particularly athletic athletics are required to spend a great deal of time Ya way m. m school when hen traveling to other schools In other board business they learned the costs of the new elementary school construction is estimated to be Dale Allsop of the architectural architectural architectural ar ar- ar- ar firm Silver and Allsop said their fee fees would come out of the estimated bid price rather than the actual bid price The bids for the construction is expected expected expected ex ex- to be awarded in July with the site work bid to be awarded in the latter part of April Allsop recommended to the board that the sprinkling system be installed as soon as possible in addition to the planting or grass seed this fall TilE THE BOARD felt depending on the actual bid price the payment of construction construction construction con con- would be feasible on a two year basis If not a tax anticipation note could be obtained to carry the payment into a third year In another matter the board voted in ina ina ina a 3 2 split against allocating for forthe forthe forthe the Uintah Basin Area Vocational Center building project Mr Les Bennett requested the money Continued on Page 16 A Activities Jt cutback t f r Continued from Page 1 M.
