Show Vernal names Lillian Henderson Woman of the Year The Vernal Business and Professional ProCessional Women's Club has named Lillian Henderson Woman of oC the Year for Cor 1977 A banquet will be held In her honor November 17 tonight Inthe Inthe in inthe the Diamond Hills Restaurant according to Alice White While and Betty Zeller who are arc taking reservations I Each ach year the WW's club symbol a marble Nike the Winged Victory of oC Greece and symbol of oC triumph over adversity is presented to the woman who is an outstanding community leader lender and one who exemplifies the standards stressed by International This years year's awa award will go to Chamber of Commerce President Lillian Henderson At the Chamber Installation Lillian had previously served as the only w woman oman on the Chamber Board of oC Directors and this year was installed as the first woman Oman President of the Vernal area Chamber of Commerce Briant Brian il H. H paid an accolade to this most in interesting interesting in person at her installation installation in in- as ns President when he revea revealed led that tha t under Lillians Lillian's direction mountains of correspondence were mailed in regards to the Central Utah Project Mr opinion of oC her is summed up thus N Henderson first appeared as an advocate of more water in June of 1936 1916 at a meeting we held with Assistant Secretary of the Interior Madsen ladsen The citizens were promised at that meeting that if they would go along with the enlargement of Dinosaur National Monument permission permission per per- mission would be given to build a dam inside the monument Alter the monument was enlarged that promise was re rescinded The greatest contribution made by a public servant in those dark days of the Colorado River Storage Project was by byLi Li Lillian Henderson who organized organised a group of women set et up office on Main lain Street Streel and typed and mailed maik l letters from ens citi to among others every senator and representative in upper stales s advocating the rw project Lillian Should sli i ld lie b h proud roud to have played such an In important part in these reaching far projects which benefit humanity for so many years to come She has sound judgment a u pleasing personality and is always alwa's willing to do her part purt and wd more She should be honored not only as Woman of the Year Yar but as the woman of the Colorado River Storage Project Lillians Lillian's s 's own response to her new position is One thing Id I'd like to make make- very clear I Iam Iam am anu not a libber I 1 like my rights the way they are They elected a lad lady to the Chamber and hopefully that's what they have I I find lind nd my work very interesting interesting in in- she continued i interesting is a mild word she has 16 iG actual committees under her direction with an average of 21 w volunteers on each committee com com- committee Vernal Vernul is the greatest place for people to get involved in community service To lo give of herself for community community com com- service has been a wa way of OC life for her During the 1976 h bicentennial year jear ear she served as county co-chairman co with Gene Hay Ray Hall all where Gene said As general chairman of the July parade she spent many hours toward the culmination of in my estimation the most outstanding outstanding out standing parade in the history of Vernal Verna Extremely reliable she bhe was always there and no matter what assignment she was given was always alwa's ready to accept it In 1361 1961 this ageless lady was honored as Uintah County's Counts Outstanding Woman of the Year at It a tea tta given in her honor at the Hotel Vernal An active member of the Republican party part she has served l as state committeewoman and as a charter member of the Current Topics tS t'S Club where she has acted l in all ull official capacities one of which was that of District President of the Uintah Basin Ilasin Federation of Clubs Sill MIK HAS IUS held all a offices for forITA PTA ITA for the three levels of schooling and has headed all of the major fund drives She also I served rv d on the county planning board hoard for eight years One fac facet t of her character was revealed in her statement I have always had many willing volunteers to make my job seem Slem easier In 1916 she he became the first Girl Scout Sout leader in the Uintah sin basin with 32 girls in her troop They assured me mr said aid an 1 i a ur f CHAMBER LEADER rates award amused Lillian that they could get another leader if I could recruit another 31 girls to form a new troop That Tha t part was easy but hut finding another leader took some time so I had over 60 girls for a while One thing she did in that time lime which could not be done now because of the strangle of red tape was to take a Girl Scout troop all tall 32 of them to Yellowstone National Park Girls tents clothes food and bedding were loaded into the back hack of a large truck owned and driven by N N.
