buildings were purchased by john R murdock and P T farnsworth on the assurance of the quartermaster that the purchasers of the buildings would have the I 1 first right to enter and buy tho the land when it was thrown open tor for public entry in 1897 a patent was issued by president mckinley to john rt At murdock for acres of at land 0 on n which the old fort building stood later murdock and farnsworth sold one half interest in the grounds to the church of jesus jeaba christ of latter day saints and still later deeded the entire property to tile the church on condition that it would establish and main maintain tair at this place a permanent institution of learning tile the church established and maintained the Al murdock academy on the establishment of the academy av al the buildings were repaired and remodeled as am school buildings domi tortes and living quarters for the students and faculty the murdock academy was operated until the year 1922 when it was discontinued due to a change of the policy of at the church school board relative to the maintenance ot of high schools during the iho time this property was used as a high school many improvements prove ments
