Show OUR NOXIOUS WEEDS W EEDS by JOHN E BLAZZARD dist agri inspector it Is IH evident that tho the people of at our state generally gon orally tiro are ignorant ot at tile the fact act that thoro there are arc weeds which have been legislated against and declared noxious and as such aro are supposed to bo be cleaned ott off tho the promises premises of at any person firm or corp corporation oration found woods weeds in tho the state of utah that have boon been so declared aro are whitetop burr dock cocklebur cock lobur russian rushian knapweed canadian thistle puncture vine whorled milkweed and wild morning glory tho the state board of agricultural Is authorized and empowered to designate and declare by regulation tho the injurious and noxious weeds of the state and every railroad canal ditch and water com I 1 pany and every firm anil and corporation 0 owning controlling v or occupying lands in this state and every county municipality irrigation or drainage astrid d having supervision and control over streets alleys lanes rights ot at way or other lands shall cut or dest royall weeds weeda declared and designated as noxious and injurious to vegetation before such weeds shall propagate or spread and whenever required by the state board of agriculture or the agricultural inspector or deputy beaver county to IB fortunate in having i no real serious iii weed condition such as la 19 evident to the observer upon riding through somo some of our less fortunate counties IQ in the central part of the state alle the condition as to weeds weeda here la is not serious at present it la Is fast approaching that state and in a few years time unless we let act now will reach proportions quite as IF alarming as that in some of the heavily infested counties in looking over beaver and the county in general it Is found that we have whitetop burr burrl dock ocic cocklebur wili wild morning glory ana and whorled milk milkweed weid of these offenders burr dock Is by far the most common weed found in the county an alarming condition Is lebn while walking alo along ng the bt at beets of beaver no ditch bank street or piece ot of property if la without ahn troublesome weed cocklebur is riot not one of the most common weeds in this county but it Is fast op spreading reading due to tho the of allowing it to tc seed on our ditch and canal banks and spread with the water onto our farm land wild morning glory Is very commonly found and la Is spreading rapidly from farm to farm in every direction whorled milkweed has as yet no serious footing here and with careful work may in the course of two years bo be entirely eradicated from the county many persons aro are unfamiliar with this poisonous plant but all stock 1 men should acquaint themselves with it and bend every effort toward the eradication of a pest which costs coats the sheep and cattlemen of our state so many dollars each year much aluch Is at present being done to rid tile the county of these noxious weeds but much more Is to be done it wo we are ever to reduce e them to a point where they will no longer trouble us everyone must lend a hand band and make a systematic endeavor to rid his premises of these weeds the weed never sleep it la Is always on the job wo we see aeo bad woods weeds on our laud land and decide they must bo be destroyed but wo we put it off a few days and go fishing the weed continues to grow while we are away and probably matures seed we go tor for a pleasure trip but the weed stays at home and grows we go to church or a social function the weed has no church or social life it continues to grow it may rain and we get under shelter but the weed grows just as aswell well rain or shine rhine we start work at sun up and quit at sun down hut but tho the weed we ed grows day and night the weed keeps consistently on the lob job let un learn to light fight it in its own way of keeping on the ae job job lot us all fight the veed menace and make beaver county tho the most freo free train from boxi noxious ous weeds of any in 1 the state such a hope can bu bo easily realized |
