Show WORK OF BEES IN ORCHARDS it has been proved that little hone hon ey gatherers are responsible for cross it has been a matter of doubt until recently as to just what agencies were responsible for cross pollination in apple P le orchards it was thought that tho the wind was w as a factor as well as aa tho the honey bees and other insects it has been proved however that the wind has haa very little to do in aiding cross pollen aaion atio nand and that honey bees wild bees find and other insects are very necessary for the transference of pollen to determine the importance of the honey bee and other insects as at factors in cross pollination an experiment was carried on by tile the kansas experiment station under the direction of james W Afe mcculloch Culloch assistant entomologist tom wind was not considered in the test because it was found that wherever apples ivero grown crown far front from an apiary only a small email amount of fruit was grown it was found that tamo tame bees were tho the predominating insects visiting tho the flowers they visited the trees from varly early morning until sundown Eun down cloudy clou d y i or windy weather seemed to reduce their number and they did not begin flying until r otter the dew had left tho the trees |
