Show voters charge wants to know and makes this plea to the voters the population of utah ia and our last legislature for the support of our government from january I 1 1915 to march 31 two years and three months appropriated the sum of 37 or per month this amounts to per day per hour per minute or about 5 cents per second every time you hear the old family clock tick away goes five cents of the taxpayers money listen tah is 8 45 for every man woman and child in the state of this amount 50 is to the governors account among the items of which s for contingent and OTHER expenses I 1 wonder what the other is for will some one inform me and goes to th state road commission of which is for contingent traveling and expenses and for payment of salaries of office employed emp loyes if the county commissioners bf each county in the state had been entrusted with the amount to be expended in each county atwould would it have saved the taxpayers a vast amount of money and the coit of building the roads would have been less hy one half the state road from beaver milford 32 miles cost or per mile see page biennial report iiii and 1912 but there ie ono thing we can say for our governor if it had not been for his disapproval the above appropriation would have been more or for the support of our state government there was appropriated for the juvenile court commission the sum of this expenditure pend iture ia unnecessary because the police and district courts could attend to the business just as welt aid better without this burden upon the taxpayers anat please tell me what is tho uso of both a bank commissioner and a bank examined tho contingent items in the appropriation in every department of state and the salaries of some of the officers and assistants si stants are entirely too large the legislature should fix a reasonable salary for each officer and let him pay his own expenses by so doing the expense accounts would not be so large there was appropriated for the agricultural college and the branch thereof at cedar city utah together with authorized deficits the sum of and to the university including deficits the state should pay for the education of every child therein up to and including the eighth grade but when the student desires to go beyond that he should be rc to pay for his own tuition instead of the taxpayers too much education is as bad as not enough for it tends to lead too many young men to abandon the shovel and the hoe and take lip the fiddle and the bow or something else thab will not make hia hands soro the educated are too prone to avoid manual labor the foundation of every state and upon which thu life of tho state depends too many bare armed stiff col lared cusses in a community are no good well taxpayers fellow slaves we should all resolve to send men to our next legislature that will use their influence to lower the coat of running our sae government and men aho vho wiil abolish all unnecessary offices and commissions and relieve us taxpayers and slaves of auch burden and thereby enable us to do something for ourselves and families |
