Show f " Tabernacle Services. Elder J. Z. Stewart officiated as president of the religious tervices in the tabernacle on Sunday. The hymn, How firm a Found ation was sang in opening, after which Bishop Ballard offered prayer. Elder Chas. Thomason, who has recently returned from southern Utah, where he has been laboring as a special Y. M. M. 1. A. missionary, spoke first. He gave an excellent report of his labors, saying that euccess had crowned the efforts of himself and in every instance. In the three counties where they had traveled the enrollment of th? Young-MenAssociations had been increased He had found 1902 members. in his travels men many young a had who testimony, yet did not know it. They hid been reared in Utah and the gospel came to them as a matter of course, and they seldom sensed its true meaning until they were brought to a reckoning by the authorities. The spirit of God is working upon the youth of Zion, stirring them up to a sense of the importance of the gospel; but the devil is on the alert and is putting forth his most powerful efforts to overthrow the kingdom of God and he loses no opportunity of prompting the youth of Zion to rebel agaiu-- t the authorities of the Church, and inciting them to deeds of selliihnus and rs s sin. The speaker urged the y:ung to seek diligently lor the to listen to all the comand truth, mandments of God as given through his servants. lie believed that today the young men of Israel should lay aside their ambitions to excel in the arts and seien , and equip them elves with the truths and the love of the n order that they my bi prepared to bear the glad tidings to the nations ot the earth when called upon to d i so, for the mighty responsibility of warning all t lie world of com it g judgments rests upon the Latter-da- y Saints, aud the arsistanoe will be needed of every one who possesses a testimony of the truth of the Latter-dawork. Seek to excel in the performance of worthy and noble deeds; in acts of kindness and charity ; and whatsoever knowljdge you may desire upon any subject, God will vouchsafe unto you. But blessings must not be expected unless we labor for them diligently and faithfully. Equality, love, and union, must reign in our midst, however, he fore we can expect to receive the many wonderful blessings promised. Elder John H. Squires was the A great next speaker. He said. many people who have embraced the gospel in foreign lands, are dissatisfied when they reach here, because things are tut always what they expected them io b? They are prone to find fault with the gospel and the authorities, and it is all because they have not been thoroughly converted t the gospel. grievThey are in many ously disappointed over the actions of brethren who fail to live up to the professions they made while laboring as missionaries. In this connection there is a great responsibility resting upon every Latter day Saiat, for if through the force of our example in failing to 'live the" gospel, some new recruit .becomes discouraged and falls by the wayside, some of the blame therefor may be attached to us. It is therefore not sufficient to alone learn to preach the gospel, but we must learn to live it also. We should try and aid one to live up to our professions. The speaker then alluded to the many evidences of the existence of a 8upreme head, and marveled that so many men should profers to believe that no Deity existed. All material things in this life are perishable hence we ahould not put forth such great efforts to obtain them, but rather aeek to lay. up treasures in heaven. Elder Jas. A. Leishman next spoke. He expressed his appreciation and endorsement of all the previous speakers had uttered. There is no need of preachers at borne discoursing to us upon ' the same subjects as they do abroad, for the reason that we are ail con people , e-- -- go-p- el y in-tino- un-oth- , . , er t - - THE TRI-WEEKL- JOURNAL, LOGAN. UTAH MARCH 31 1888 Y verted here, whereas the world is not. Too Bad! . Men are conyinced of the truth of the gospel by the power which acj companies it that of the Holy Ghost. The greatest blessing that a human being can enjoy is that of knowing that the gospel is truer When we embraced the gospel we assumed certain obligations which must be met, hence constant diligence on our part is necessary. We bavo now abont 1500 missionaries in difierent parts of the world, and we think we are doing a great work, but it is nothing compared with what we will be called upon Jo do, for there are hundreds of millions of people upon the earth to whom the gospel must ye; be carried. China, Rus-- s a, Portugal, Grece, the South American republics and other countries have not yet been d at all, hut before the reign of Christ be visited and dawns they will-al- l tm gospel message carried to them. Elder Leishman then called attention to the' great Necessity of performing the work for the dead. God has said that without our deul wo cannot be saved, hence the vital importance of complying with thit requirement of the gospel. The choir then sang an anthem in a nv-- t in&piiiug manner, after which Patriarch Hans Anderson pronounced the benediction. vi-ite- - The makers of Pride of Japan (tree tea) have advertised that Thos. Price, analytical chemist of San Francisco, and Prof. J. T. Kingsbury of the University .of Utah, have given them certificates that the above brand of tea is perfectly pure. The deduction drawn from this analysis is, that the Pride of Japan tea which you buy in the stores is perfectly pure. While it is quite possible to buy pure tea (like SchilliJig' s Best) and pack it in Pride of Japan packages, and submit it to chemists for analysis; still we assert that the Pride of Japan tea sold in this market is artificially colored with coloring matter.
