It is now known that a gifTmade to a university does not give the donor the right to dictate the political beliefs of all connected with r TuE trustees s. -- it. tAx EriDEMic of yellow fever has broken out in New Orleans, Mobile, and other points in the South; and the most intense excitement prevails;'' Thousands are flocking from the affected points. Strict quarantine is being maintained and the boards of health are doing everything in their power to prevent the spread of the disease, and the Mississippi Board of Health has placed an embargo upon all mails from the infected districts of the State. There is general rejoic ing over the near approach of cold weather, as frost effectually kills the disease germs. -- The government has already commenced preparations for the inevitable call for relief frem the Klondyke country, and to preserve men from the consequences of their own folly. Secretary Alger has interviewed Joseph Ladue, the founder of Dawson City, in regard to the situation. Mr. Ladue estimates that five thousand men will be in the Klondyke country this winter, whereas under the most favorable conditions provisions cannot bo provided for more than three thousand. This would mean that two thousand would simply starve to death unless relieved from extraneous sources. Even if there was an abundance for all if equally divided, it would be safe tc assume that hundreds would starve for lack of the purchase price. Gold fevers have always proved disastrous, and must of necessity prove doublyso within the Arctic circle. -- There is now most excellent reason" for believing that, After all, Salt Lake will not be sacrificed upon the hybrid, altar. At the age of two months, my baby began to have tore break oat on bis right cheek. We used all the external applications that we could think or hear of, to no avail. The sores spread all over one side of his face. We consulted a physician and tried his medicine, and In a week the soro was gone. But to my surprise in .two weeks more another scrofulous looking sore appeared on babys arm. It grew worse and worse, and when he waf three months old, I. began giving him Hoods Sarsaparilla. I also took Hooda Sarsaparilla, anA. before the first bottle was finished, the sores were well and have never retnrned. This law was subsequently changed or modified so that where it was plainly apparent that certain territory just outside the city limits should be included withiu the city school district, it could be so ordered by the respective county couats. Every rule of justice in the case referred to, demanded that the six hundred ..acres petitioned for should be added to the Logan district. The land is owned by Logan men. These men have from to one hundred child-teseventy-fiv- e every one of whom is attending the Logan schools. The land was within the Logan district until . Logan becamt . a city of the second class, whea the law restricted city school .districts to the corporate limits. The county attorney has -- held that -- this law-is still in force; but it is a fact - that the corporate and school district boundaries" of ether cities are'uot identical. An instance is furnished by the corrected lists forwarded by the Clerk of Utah-countto the State Auditor a few days ago. It is shown that while the assessed valuation of Provo, for city purposes, is but $1,794,8.35.79, property to the amount of $2,204,771.30 is levied on for the support of the schools. This shows that property outside of the corporate . limits, having an assessed valuation of $400,932,51, was subject to assess-tuefc- ij for ichool; purposes.
