Show PRESS BULLETIN of f the utah ulah 6 agricultural experiment 10 station bulletin no 43 of the utah experiment peri Deri ment station has recently been issued this bulletin reports 1 I 1 dairy herd record for 1894 1 95 2 winter winter feeding experiments with dairy cows 33 3 some suggestions gest ions on n the building c an and d equipment of factories the following conclusions are drawn by the writer F B linfield from the record of tile the dairy herd of the station which constitutes the first section of the bulletin I 1 it would appear that among among our common cows we have thoe which would form a good foundation for a profitable dairy herd 2 the form or type of a cow i is a stron strong indication of the milking qualities 3 the babcock test and th the scales are of much value to the bel pur purchaser chaser of cows but should be used with judgment 4 tests in connection with the weights of the milk morning and evening taken for the sixth month after the cow comes in seem in the majority of cases to indicate not only the probable value of the cow but her relative value as compared with the other cows of the herd 5 from the yearly record it is clear that a herd of common c cows 0 properly fed and handled will wil 1 return e a very handsome profit over the cost of their keep keem I 1 I 1 6 it is clear also that from the 1 i standpoint of economic production utah has nothing to fear from outside competition in the production I 1 of dalry dairy products our average I 1 cost for feeding a cow for one year is from 35 to 50 per cent less than is s reported from eastern stations and our advantage e of food water and climate is equalled equal led by few I 1 places and s surpassed by none our bur market too is good and if I 1 I 1 properly looked after and developed ve will continue to be so our i i prices being fully equal to and i sometimes surpassing those of kl fl gin in and chicago cabica go I 1 7 at the present prices of dairy products as compared with tle the price irice of grain and fodders one dollars worth of feed fed to a good herd of cows fiill T ill return two livo dol lars ars worth of milk butter or cheese A copy of the above bulletin may be e obtained free on application to luther foster director expert arent S Stat loc I agan utah |
