Show E RESTING SESSION the farmers of cache Mee tanil tand transact business living questions taken api upi up 1 invitation to senator allison to come coma 11 to cache the school land Qui quintion Qa estion stion sest meeting an important one I 1 the regular session of the criche valley Aari agricultural cultural society was held saturday jan k 20 the meeting was fairly well attended I 1 by an an interested set of men and one lady it may be well to spin spain suggest that ladies are welcome to these meetings aud and that utah probably stands alone in being the only place on earth that r women omen as a I 1 rule do not attend farmers meetings the torrens land system was first discussed but it was hot known just how bow the system worked and sc a motion made by baker of mendon was carried as follows that a committee of five be appointed by the t h e house hauae fo look up the question and report at the next meeting the following were then chosen by the house thomas jessop jesop moroni price jos cowley W th 11 lewis and A A mills t during the discussion of the torrens system senator allison alii son came in for a share of the remarks one gentleman suggested that after ll 11 ha had recalled thomis thomas bayard that he allison be eit er recalled or called from thas cache Val I 1 alley leyan arad d ita iha ithe farmers a irber here would give him enough ground I 1 to bury him another geisleman I 1 added that if the senator rould come to cache the farmers would I 1 do the rest I 1 several speakers touched on the subject of milling and declared that the millers were charging too much toll and that they were taking in it in high grade flour instead of wheat thereby deceiving their customers it was suggested that as the Levi legislature slature had been asked to regulate the freight C rates that it be asked to regulate the toll rate of millers one gentleman said that he knew of one mill in tile the county that was not open to the criticism and that this mill was owned and operated by farmers mr irvine protested protes ed against asking the legislature Leai slature to take a hand and suggested that the farmers own and operate the mills Mr Woolford urged that at every meeting of the society there should be at least farmers the school land question was next taken up it was stated that in cache valley mandof many of the people had settled on school land through ignorance t though the lands were surveyed at the time prest mills thought that if the error was due to tile the government surveyor surrey or the government s agents the homestead would hold but not it was further sug that the government always construed everything in favor of the hona bona fide settler and that the only way to determine the rights of such Seti settlers lerS was for them to apply at the land office some of the people on school lands urged that the legislature be petitioned to sell the land at per acre others thought differently as these people had had the use of nf these lands for a long time for n nothing 0 thing that they should at least be willing willina to pay somewhere near the real value e of these lands one man on school jol lands said eaid that lie he thought the lands landa should be sold for half their real value to to the settlers on thew them which in his case would be about 10 per acre moved ly by mr woolford that the society ask the executive committee of the state society to wait on the governor and ask him to appoint all farmers to the public land commission should such commission be created this was amended to make it read a majority majori tv of the members of the he commission be fa failers fan imers ners and pissed as amended as it was argued that hat there were other interests at stake though the farmers would have to pay the bill in in any case notice was given that amendments to the constitution would bould be voted on at the next meeting so as to allow the county meetings meeting S to be held any anywhere wherein in th tb county also to allota the board of directors director sto to elect the secretary if these should carry the society will be open for ao an invitation to meet at any of the larger tow toa ns in the county notice was given that at the next regular meeting which occurs on february Feb esth the annual report of tile the officers for the past year would be read and the election of 0 f kofl officers acers would occur all are earnestly re to be present at the next meeting to hear bear these reports anol and to join in ill electing the officers for the next year |
