influential business men of 0 ogden den ilis his education and business affairs have live been acquired in tho the practical schools of learning having been connected idith with various public offices and commercial enterprises from froin boyhood ile he is a native of salt lake and all his bis ventures and interests have bave been centered in the territory when but 13 3 years of ace age he was taken into the county clerks office where he remained in in various capacities for fifteen years in 1875 he was ivas appointed deputy county clerk filling the position until 1883 when he was elected county clerk and the following a year elected county attorney in and he was elected reelected re to this office and during his tenure of office nce was looked upon as one of the most able lawyers ever chosen for that position ilis his knowledge of law had bad been acquired by arduous study during the short ebert hours lie he was rei relieved eved from duty in tho the county clerks office cc his implacable ambition all and d inherent capabilities enabled him to fully master the subject and the success he be has achieved and the perser verance lie has bag exhibited it ia not only creditable to himself but has brought him in a great measure to the present advanced position lie he occupies in coni commercial ial and political affairs mr richards served tin ee terms as a count county clerk and three terms as county attorney in june 1884 he was admitted to practice before tile the liar bar of the supreme court of utah and 9 in december 1887 before the united states supreme court in the fa I 1 of 1887 lie he was elected member of the territorial house of representatives and in 1889 to the legislative council in addition to tile offices mentioned above lie he served one term in the territorial board of equalization of taxes and also alio one term as regen regent t of the university of deseret Du seret As president of the utah loan and trust company lie he has hag proven himself ga a man of superior general qualifications and a sound and able financier ile he was one of the first leaders in the division movement and as chairman of the weber county democratic committee came
