Show CLOSED ho such before on karth EDITOR now that moro days will sec the close of the exposition it may not be without interest to make a brief review of the whole subject from the beginning the exposition has labored under merya bullies cul lieS threatening almost if not usefulness the ope everything in a chaotic state and thousands aiho aliea lo 10 sec the forced to ciomo having the half for much of the delay exhibitors were responsible in not having moved earlier towards having their on the ground nod with scarcely an exception no stale exhibit was completed on tho day of opening the reports then carried home to all part of the country had the effect to discourage thousands from coming even after it was known that everything was in readiness for inspection spec tion and many hard things were said against the management which were not justified by the facts the very great magnitude of the work they had undertaken made mistakes inevitable and should have screened them from unjust criticism some correspondents were not only unjust ant seemed to be actuated by malignant li predetermined purpose to traduce the exposition in every particular when it is more than probable that they themselves could not have named any particular men who could have done belter or as well under similar circumstances the management did make serious mistakes which ought not to have occurred and especially in the matter of transportation which and nil others it is expected will be fully remedied should the fair be opened reopened re next fall but that they intended and aimed to do all in their power to make hie exposition a success no reasonable person can hav a doubt whether finance and unfriendly criticism al had tb be met and now looking over the entire field the v onder is that they accomplished so much and did as well as they have done despite all mistakes all diacou rage ments no such mammoth exhibition was ever before seen on earth nor one so fraught with magnificent to the country and to the world the government was never equalled equal led by that of kiy oilier national expose alic result being to familiarize visitors wilh every department part ment and to kindle enthusiastic and patriotic admiration for and devotion to a system so evidently designed to promote the public welfare no one seeing tins exhibit made by his government could aside and say that he ras nit proud to lie a citizen of the great nc public the state exhibits have been the constant admiration of all comers and even a single day spent among chein has imparted more accurate knowledge of alie actual resources ot eccli section than could have been obtained by months of inquiry or study or otherwise pursued the purely commercial and industrial results certain to follow the exhibition of these resources alone would be a sufficient compensation for all the cost of the exposition if there were none other the southern states especially have laid open to alie world the almost limitless resources with which alicy abound and have so cordially invited emigration and capital to conic in and help develop their native wealth that must result in unlocking and putting into nativity anany millions of hitherto idle capital and in bringing in many thousands of people from the crowded north and cast to find or make happy and prosperous homas in these states this result will reach upon the northern sections and naturally create greater commercial activity there and greater and more commercial activity and exchanges between the two great geographical divisions of a common country so that while capital and people will how south the respective products of both north and south will find or make both mutual and better markets than have existed there is a general expression here in favor of opening reopening re the exposition next autumn and this is likely to lie done if the president will consent ta allow the government to remain the citizens of new orleans have agreed ou their part
