Show A COMPANY ORGANIZED FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF IRON. From the Salt Lake Herald we learn that at 11 o'clock a.m. on Thursday of last week a number of gentlemen, prominently identified with the mineral wealth of the territory, met at the Deseret National Bank; for the purpose of taking into consideration the advisability of organizing a company for the manufacture of iron. The meeting was called to order by Hon. (Honorable) Wm. (William) Jennings; upon whose nomination Hon. (Honorable) John Sharp was chosen chairman and Col. (Colonel) J. R. Winder, secretary and temporary treasurer. The object of the meeting as was explained, and the draft of the articles of incorporation; which were to serve as a basis for deliberation, was read. After due consideration the draft was approved; the name being the "Utah Iron Manufacturing Company." Five hundred shares of the stock were then subscribed for, and in accordance with the law regulating the incorporation of each company 10 per cent of the amount of stock subscribed for was paid into the hands of the treasurer - the sum amounting to the neat little nest egg of 5,011 hard gold dollars. This done, the election of officers for the ensuing twelve months was commenced, resulting as follows; President, William Jennings; vice-president, Amos Howe; directors, John Sharp, F. Little, John Lawler, W. H. Hooper, H. S. Eldridge, the president and vice-president being members of the board, who, together with the secretary and the treasurer - to be hereafter elected by the board - will make the nine members necessary to constitute the board of directors as provided for in the articles of incorporation. The stockholders meeting the adjourned sine die and the board of directors met. Their business being the election of a secretary and a treasurer, Col. (Colonel) J. R. Winder was chosen secretary and L. S. Hills treasurer. The company has not yet decided what active steps will be taken or where the iron works will be located. |
