Show AMATURE TIPPLERS. On Monday evening last, a laughable scene took place in front of Logan Hall. Three young men, bent on having some fun, went there and played the part of drunkards so well that they deceived two police officers, who, seeing their condition, placed themselves in an obscure place and watched the proceedings of the trio. One of the party who had a large bottle in his pocket, was staggering around and amusing his friends, who also appeared to be drunk, when the officer stepped out and took hold of them. Mark the change. They straightened up and began pleading in very piteous tones, and setting forth their innocence. Said one, "I am not drunk, just let go of me and see how straight I can walk, and I'll prove it to you." The other two collected all their wits together and plead most earnestly to be released. The officers kept them a short time, giving them a good scare, and then released them, much to their gratification. Next day, however, one of them was required to call on Judge Cranney, who assessed him $7.50. Young men, be careful in the future when you play the drunkard that you have no officers in your audience. |
