Show ANOTHER CANYON ACCIDENT. On Monday, an accident of a very serious nature occurred in Smithfield canyon, about 6 miles from the town. Two men were getting out logs, when the younger one, Neils Gyllenskog, was struck in the back, and knocked insensible by a sliding tree, which his companion had sent down the mountain side. The latter, whose name was Newton, discovered the injured man half an hour after lying unconscious with his face in the snow. No assistance was near; so he lifted Gyllenskog in his arms, carried him some distance down to the canyon road; and then, mounting a horse with him, went to Smithfield. On Tuesday Doctor Norcross, of Logan, was sent for, who after examination, found that most painful and serious internal injuries had been sustained, though no bones had been broken; and that the patient was in precarious condition. He did all in his power to give relief; and now the young man has a prospect of recovery. He is 20 years of age, and is universally respected. |
