Show THE WIGHT MURDER Trial of Bailey the Man who Fired the Fatal Shots Our readers will all remember the killing of Daniel Wight, by William Bailey, near Brigham City, in November last. The circumstances attending the sad occurrence are too well known to require a repetition. On Saturday last the defendant was arraigned for trial in the First District Court at Ogden. He was defended by Arthur Brown, a skillfull attorney from Salt Lake; while ? Van? Esq., conducted the prosecution. Several witnesses were ? among them Miss Annie Bywater-the young lady on whose account it is alleged that the problem occurred. She was very much affected in giving her testimony; and for this there is not little cause of wonder. At the conclusion of the evidence of Monday arguments were made-the prosecuting attorney asking for a verdict of manslaughter. This verdict the jury returned after nearly two hour ?. Sentence is to be delivered on Monday next unless in the meantime a new trial shall be secured for the defendant. |
