Show DREADFUL ACCIDENT IN LOGAN CANYON. On Wednesday last Brother Hans Hansen of the 4th Ward met with a shocking accident in Logan canyon. He and several other men were working in a branch canyon called Spring creek, a rough, rocky place. Brother Hansen stood in a drag road on a steep side hill when a log loosened by one of the men, came rolling down. It struck his right ancle [ankle], knocked him down onto his left side and rolled over the entire length of his body. His right leg between the ancle [ankle] and knee is broken in two places, and the foot and limb are dreadfully bruised and swollen. He is also bruised and scratched about the head and face. With rare presence of mind and fortitude he grasped the injured limb on his hands and pressed the broken and shattered bones to their places, and with the assistance of some of the men working with him, bound up the limb very tightly with a shirt. He was then conveyed to Thos. X. Smith's saw mill on a litter and cart, and from there rode home Wednesday evening in a wagon. The accident occurred at about 10 a. m. and he reached home at about 6 p. m. Yesterday a representative of the Leader called on the patient. He was cheerful but suffering great pain which has to be assuaged with injections of morphia. Dr. Lamoreaux is attending him. The same limb has been broken twice before, and both times Brother Hansen set it himself and got along well with it. |
