Show TERRITORIAL NEWS. The narrow gauge road between Provo and this city is being pushed forward with remarkable rapidity. The distance between Provo City and the Point of the Mountain is lined with men and teams, and the grading is being forwarded there with almost incredible rapidity. Some leading men in Utah County have not only taken contracts for grading nearly the whole ????? from Provo to the Point, but have also contracted for a considerable distance in this valley, and are crow??? ???ing everything with ????. All along this valley also, the work of grading is going on with the same expedition. Farmers and those who have ended their labors in industries which end with the summer season, are taking advantage of this opportunity of putting their teams and ???? to remunerative employment. Railroad material is also constantly being shipped for this road. On Wednesday the narrow guage [gauge] road received another engine, to be used between this city? and Provo in [unreadable]. Three flat cars were also received. ??? makes twenty-three flat cars in all, which have been received for the Denver and Rio Grande since the shipment of material began. A car load of general supplies were also received for the road this week. As before stated, the road is being carried forward with almost incredible speed. The little road parallels the Utah Central from Provo almost if not entirely to Pleasant Grove, running along on the east side.-S.L. Herald, 19. While not a great deal is said about the artesian well, work has steadily been pushed on it. It will be remembered that an almost fatal difficulty, in the shape of loose cobble rocks, for a long time impeded the work, by resisting the tools until they broke, and by filling up the excavations as fast as made. It would appear, however, that this difficulty has been overcome, and the workmen now state that they are going through sand, gravel and clay, the latter very solid and compact, and of a brown color. The workmen are at the point in that they have finally passed through the deep stratum of cobble stone and cement like gravel. The boulders? are growing gradually and beautifully less as a greater depth is obtained. The well is now down a distance of 600? feet, and it would not be surprising should flowing water be reached at any time.-S.L. Herald. |
