Show SUNDAY SERVICES in the salt lale lake tabernacle july 3 1892 when the weather is so bright Outs outside ideas as it was last sunday in in salt lake it is very hard for one to sit in the corn com pari arit lively ively dark tabernacle and listen to the sermon but the sermon bermon of sunday would amply compensate one for the disadvantages 0 he experienced while the music would fill his compensating pen sating up to overflowing on the stand were the first presidency cy of the salt lake stake apostles heber J grant and abraham 11 II cannon patriarch john smith bishops william B preston Pre orson F whitney Whit ncy and james 1 I woods the music musie rendered by a full choir was the and hymn arid and the anthem praise ye the father the only speaker was ORSON P F who said the lord required the L latter atter day saints to meet together oft often elito to partake of the sacrament und and the receive instruction in in regard to the true gospel I 1 trust that all of these who are present today to day are most worthy to partake of or p tho the sacrament tale emblems of the broken body and the spilled blood of the lord and that those who speak shall do so with the power a and nd spirit of tile the lord so the congregation may be edified aud and iii instructed ted scare required to worthily partake of the emblems of the alio bod body y and blood of the alie lord and in ill d doing 0 so should consider within our salves our worthiness remembering we words of blessing that are anid for in partaking or 01 obese emblems ni e ill aie 0 required to have pure hearts and humble spirits the truth of go got is generally distasteful unto men because he be is required in obeying the commands of god to bend himself to the will of him and to sacrifice his feelings and desires for the good I 1 of the work of god ind and man naturally foels feels to partake of those pleasures that are tasteful unto him and naturally hates anything that will stand in the way of his hig enjoying his pleasure in his own way in III all times gods truth 1 I 1 lias as firmly planted itself in the road when man has wished to 0 o do precisely cise I 1 y ai as lie he wishes and it is is therefore natural that man should resent any such interference inter ferance no matter how bow it may benefit him when jesus upon the mount of olives preached to the multitude and taught to them the things of god whose who listened to i lim him were astonished at ilia his teachings for they said he pecked to teach with authority but ilia his docar doctrines 1 gnei were so different from those they alwaes heard taught by the men of f god who 0 ad jesus us i th the earth jtb had been be elli ol 01 I 1 years under the laws of ap sef t the lie law of an eye for an all eye a tooth for a tooth the law of retaliation and this they thought wis the law elaw of justice find and the I 1 highest law of god G od therefore they were astonished when jesus jesu with art an air air of one who had authority to so preach that rilen men should have charity one towards another that man should love all his fellow creatures and should forgive and love even his enemies but it is not so strange that tile the jews were astonished at it such a doctrine preached in that day when even in this enlightened tinie time when wo we have known of the gospel of god for over eighteen n hundred years we find it si so hard bard to obey the commands of god set get down in that sermon in this day even some of the latter day saints sainta endeavor to convince themselves that jesus did not mean what ile he said at that time in a literal sense we should not judge our fellow men by any ally standard of our own for it we to do we be judged b by the standard of god and shall A aall deserve our punishment we can with our limited vision only see what a man mail does and what mistakes lie he makes we cannot see S ee th the C struggle lie he liag hag within him to do ri right 15 lit and we do not know what mortal weakness he be has to combat I 1 do not pretend at this time to be able myself to live the bi higher biber ber law of god but I 1 am striving striving all the time and feel assured that if I 1 live long enough I 1 shall attain to the perfection that is assured by that law I 1 feel this beckus sometimes I 1 dream and feel such a love for all mankind that all petty hates and jealousies are swept away before the hood flood of this benignant passion but at other times clouds will come before the sun and I 1 will allow jealousy and anger toward my illy fe follow mc men creep in but tile the first feeling gives me ony only content while the last leaves me miserable and I 1 feel assured that I 1 will always be able to do that which gives me pleasure and not that which gives me pain continued on fifth page sunday sor services vices continued from first page I 1 sometimes think that I 1 can see hee three ve very ry good reasons why we all should choul d abc obey food t this 1 is divine law of god 1 I b believe lieve much of the sin of this world is duo due to the hm ignorance f orance of nian dinn for no man inan could commit a crime with a full knowledge of tile consequences that will follow the latter day saints believe that men have a pre existence and are now simply schooling themselves on this earth for tile the blessings that are to come in the hereafter we find through tho scrip tures lures that god in the state of pre existence made a test bert of those who were surrounding 0 him and that of tile tho hosts of heaven 11 cavell sonic some two thirds were able to stand I 1 this alis test and that these are to bo be rewarded by tile the privilege of having an earthly tabernacle irlie wherein rein they may bo be schooled and disciplined discipline d before entering upon the everlasting glory in this state of arc ux ex istance we saw ard knew many abin things s which we do not now kno know for wo were with god in person and his wisdom ever guided us but inthis in this fleshy tabernacle we are arc to be given a higher test for we are to bo be required require ii to walk with the eyes of faith no matter what may be the persecutions and trials we are to be called upon to endure persecutions will ivill be heaped upon us to try our faith and as god told joeeph smith tile the worse the perse cautions cut ions the greater will be our warl l for patiently enduring them under these circumstances when many of our fellow creatures but dimly comprehend the conditions which surround them and but faintly discern the reason for the trials fall and persecutions of this world it is not wonderful that many should slip and that mail many should fall beneath the burden that has been placed upon them I 1 and we should in the light 0 of f out our own trials and tribulations and because we realized the struggle rt le be charitable unto the failings of others and should forgive those who abou though h they fl fight ti lit against the commands of god ili in this world fought for him in the previous state jesus said upon the cross ivllon he was suffering untold agonies father forgive them they the know not what they do and this shows that lie realized that men are i ignorant ir no rif of what they do in disobeying the commands of god and mccan we can well afford to forgive them when they do not realize that they are doing 1 wrong wo we should also obey the higher law of god because men will have to answer to god for their own sins and all wrongs done shall be righted in the hereafter liere after these are three good reasons why vav wen nen should obey this divine cor command mand and I 1 am confident that the abe day will soon come among among the latter day saints when they will not hold bold any action against against 0 t any nian man but will have a great far reaching love for mankind and will look to god to judge all the the wrong that is being done here on the earth E J YOUNG so no matter what may be the ills you bear hoin indigestion a dose of 0 ayers cathartic pills will ease you Nit without hOut question quee tion just try them once and be assured they have much woree tics bics cured fand them nice and amply
