Show UTAH DEMOCRATS from every county met in ogden on saturday last THE LARGEST convention that ever assembled in the territory delegates selected for chicago last saturday was a great day for democracy ogden was crowded with delegations from every part of tile the territory there were seven bands in attendance they were all number one crack lands bands the parado parade was imposing hundreds of people took part seven carloads were thero there from salt lake alone there were three from provo and three from logan there were hundreds of others from other parts of the territory ogden was surprised iler her citizens flocked to the doors windows and upon the roofs inside the opera house the thedac dec co rations were superb banners and bunting draped the hall while flags and flowers finished off the stage no one could look upon that audience after it became seated and say that democracy was not strong col merrit called the house to order in a neat speech ile ho named ilon hon A G norrell a as 3 temporary chairman judge jude 0 remarks on taking in 7 the chair were loudly applauded ilon hon E A smith was chosen secretary committees were then appointed on credentials permanent organization order of business and on platform and resolutions the convention then took a recess after dinner the house filled promptly judge norrell called upon tho the lion hon david evans for a speech mr evans evang was greeted with great applause lie he made a short but interesting talk which was well received in concluding his remarks mr evans said he had understood there was a democrat there that he be wanted to hear bear he had never met him but he be wanted to hear him ile he understood he was a democrat and a goo good d one 1 I take pleasure concluded mr evans in naming ilon hon MOSES THATCHER the shout which went up on hearin hearing that namo was simply deafening men alen upon the street rushed into the hall to see the cause of so much shouting then when mr thatcher Thatch cr rose roee from the body of the house and went upon the stand lie ho was greeted with an additional ovation the audience fairly went wild hats were thrown into the air handkerchiefs were flourished the acle delegates V gates stood up and climbed upon the seats then in the eloquent ini impressive manner characteristic of the orator mr thatcher spoke for an hour upon the principles of democracy ile he was frequently interrupted with applause and when ho he hall had concluded the audience clie cheered cred until lie he was compelled to return to the front and acknowledge b the encore wo wc convention at chicago 7 colonel lett named henry 11 1 henderson when judge name was mentioned a storm broke loose almost equal to that provoked by tho the name of thatcher ile he was so evidently the choice odthe of tho house that mr evans took the sta stage go an and d moved that the rules bo be suspended and jude jud e henderson be chosen 0 by acclamation this went with a whoop and the convention tossed hats in the air y shook umbrellas ss and canes and waved arms arins in the most frantic manner in standing up to make the motion unanimous F for or second delegate th thero ere were supervision and control of fi five ive men inen who are neither citizens nor residents of the territory but of states elates at a distance of from one thousand to fifteen hundred undred li miles milca
