New construction con-struction this year has been accomplished ac-complished at a cost of approximately approxi-mately $25,000, and all without any additional appropriation from the state legislature. The annual appropriation from the state for the fair is only $17,500, or $35,000 for the biennium. The cost of the state fair will exceed $125,000 each year. The revenue lrom the fair must be supplemented supple-mented with the extra revenue to make it successful. STATE FAIR EXHIBIT BUILDINGS MADE READY The opening date of the Utah j State Fair is still four weeks off but manager J. A. Theobald reports re-ports that several of the exhibit j buildings have already been put in shape for the opening day. Some of these have undergone major improvements, and others oth-ers have been newly created. Already locked up for the opening open-ing day, with all exhibit cages in place, are the rabbit building, poultry building, pigeon building, build-ing, which is a newly constructed construct-ed addition to the poultry exhibit, ex-hibit, and a newly completed building which will house the vocational activities program of the F. F. A. and 4-11. The swine exhibit building, which was started for the fair in 1950, has now been complet ed. It is a building 120 feet in length and 40 feet wide. It is closed in on three sides and the front is constructed in a patio effect, with open sections so that exhibits can be viewed from the outside. Interest in the swine exhibit is keen this year and exhibitors ex-hibitors have already signified their intention of coming from Idaho, Washington, Colorado and Nevada, in addition to many new ones from Utah. Until a few years ago, Utah was not considered as a hog growing area, but recent years has witnessed an improvement in the herds and many produc-i produc-i ers have taken an interest in j fully registered stock. The 1951 swine show should be the most outstanding in the history of Utah Fairs. Other improvements on the fair grounds have been made with th income derived from rental of the facilities owned by |
