Show had a good time feasting, swinging and playing games. CLOSING EXERCISES Of the Public Schools of St. George. Friday April 30th was the last day, of the Public schools for the past ! year and appropriate exercises were held in the tabernacle beginning at iooctock. At that time the large build ing was filled with school children : and parents who had come to witness the closing exercises. The exercises were opened by the school singing "The Star Spangled Banner' prayer by Richard Morris. Miss Zaidee Walker then read the roll of honor after which E. H. Snow in behalf of Col E. W. Tatlock of Salt Lake City the donor- presented the schools with a beautiful flag Mr. Snow took occasion to thank Mr. Tatlock and paid a warm tribute I to the public schools as a national institution . Miss RQsa Gregerson read a poem "The Schoolhouse flag". The School and audience sang "Cheer we the flag ever true" with Miss Lottie Ashby leading. An able address on "patriotism in the Publice Schools" was rendered by Clarence Jarvis. Francis L. Dag-' Dag-' gett Chairman of the School Board presented the graduates with their certificates. The graduates were: Miss Maud R. Snow, Clarence S . Jarvis, Louisa Cox, Jennie Nixon, Tina woodbury, Alice- Redd, and Rosa Gregerson. These had all completed the eighth grade. Each , school in turn gave very creditable exercises. Jos. Walker of the Central Cent-ral School gave a very good address i on "The Pilgrims". "Mother Goose and her Family," "The birds convention" con-vention" "The census taker" were dialogues that were acted with considerable con-siderable ability and reflected credit on teachers and pupils, while the little tots who rendered "Three little Kittens" and "The Welcome" were very cute and brought forth great applause. "The Vacation Exercise" in which each had a part to perform exhibited the bold and the bashful, the positive and the hesitating, and withal was very entertaining. In ! the "Vacation Song" the Primary : boys fairly outdone themselves and '. made the girls jealous. The "Drill" i by the Intermediates were a great success and the drillers will no ' doubt some day belong to the N. G. U. The song "May Greeting" and '. the recitation "Keep your promise" were well received. Misses Lettie Nelson and Edith Judd sang a beautiful beau-tiful duet and sang it beautifully, too. As a closing exercise the schools and audience sang "America" "Amer-ica" and the school year was declared declar-ed closed. The children and parents pa-rents then adjourned to the grounds where picnic were spread and all i |
