Show today, thus far, for which we are , truly thankful. Tho health of the people is not very good on account of so much rotten Vegetation, the result cf 1 the late floods, which has caused some fevers and sore throats, &c. The Bishop lost his infant son and the writer buried his second daughter, who was nine years of age tho 25th of last January. Those who are afflicted are now on the in prove and it is hoped we will have better health soon. I have just learned that the rain was so heavy near the head of our ditch that wo will have several days work again in cleaning it out. Eespectfully F. D. Gilford. CORRESPONDENCE Springdale, August 20, 1896. Fditor Union: Dear Sir: Perhaps a few lines from this place may be interesting to some . of our readers. Since July 5th we have had two -bad storms that filled up our ditches again. We are getting tho ditches cleaned out the thiid time. Last night the heavens were -clothed in a garb of blackness while peal after peal of loud thunder burst forth upon ours ears which made us fear we were going 13 have a repetition of our late heavy floods, but Providence must have interceeded in our behalf, for it settled down and we had a nice gentle rain which lasted nearly all night and considerable of the day |
