Show be as well to all mutually concerned to leave that part as it is? Why not as well knock out two of the Commissioners Com-missioners and have only one? The following notice was duly posted up the other day, near the Post Office: "NOTICE. NOTICE is hereby given that on Monday the 24th day of August, A. I)., 1896, the County Court of Washington County, State of Utah, will consider the advisability of consolidating con-solidating and uniting the duties of certain officers within and for said Connty, said consolidation to take effect from and after the First day of January, A. D., 1897. ' Recommendations and suggestions sugges-tions in regard to said consolidations consolida-tions in the interest of economy, keeping in view the efficient administration admin-istration of the County Officers, will be gladly received by the Commissioners. Commis-sioners. ., By order of the County Court, ' Seth A . Pymm, County Clerk." Some one who was anxious to make a "recommendation" attached thereto the following;: "In the interest of economy" the said Commission will first suggest a grand reduction of their own individual indi-vidual salaries "to jake effect" immediately." im-mediately." If the salararies of our various officers of-ficers can be computed to aggregate an income that will favorably compare com-pare with that received by those em-ptoyed em-ptoyed in the various branches of industry, it will be more equitable and economical for the people. We are not in favor of any officer of the County or State receiving more than five dollars per day, for actual services rendered, and where salaried officers receive more than that amount, per day, we think in all honor that it would be just and equitable equi-table for such officers, if any there . be, to refuse to receive more than an equitable compensation for services rendered. - But why Consolidate the offices of Recorder and Clerk? Tflfould it not . . - ' ' . . 1 |
