Take from two to four shirts, or their equivaleut, place one on top of the other, with front of shirts down, place them on the cylinder with the collars toward the back of the ma-chine, ma-chine, put one of the brass rods in place about the centre of the shirts, bring that portion of the shirts back of t,he rod over toward the front of the machine. This operation loops the clothes around the rod. Tnrn the cylinder from you until the ends of the first lot are approached, place four more on the cylinder in the same manner, placing the rod at or near the end of the first lot. Continue Con-tinue this operation until the cylinder cylin-der is covered. From two to three lots will cover the cylinder. Raise the washboard so as to give the clothes a moderate rubbing- and scrubbing. Rub soap over the cuffs and collars and all dingy places as the 'clothes are spread in an easy position. po-sition. Turn the crank toward the back of the machine fifty or sixty times, then open the machine, let down the washboard, reverse thei turning of the crank and .turn towards to-wards the front of the machine j about twenty or thirty times and your clothes will be ready for the wringer. All articles of clothing smaller than bedding wash as above , described. To wash bedding or j strips of carpet, fold a quilt or blank-' et four fold lengthwise, put one end on the cylinder and place a rod an inch or two from the end wind it loosely around the cylinder, when the rod is approached' remove it and Jap the quilt over the end that you removed the rod from and replace it within a few inches of the other end, turn the crank toward the back of the machine only, until that portion of the quilt which is in sight is clean, remove the rod, roll up the quilt in front of you until near the end, then turn it over, and proceed as before. If the inside folds are not clean turn them to the outside and proceed as hefore. Wash strips of carpet in the same way except one fold and once turning will be sufficient. 13e sure to remember that the washboard wash-board must be let down while put-ing put-ing on clothes, turning them over or reversing the motion.
