Show To P roduce Urge Chrysanthemums A correspondent of the Canadian Horticulturist gives the following directions for producing large chrysanthemums: chrys-anthemums: "The method usually practiced to ! obtain ve' large flowers i's to ooi! ! the cutting late in May or in june, then place in a small pot, and in two or three weeks put in a five or six inch pot, the side growth being carefully care-fully nipped off in order to throw all the vigor tnto the main stem, which must be supportedj by a stake, and tied. As soon as buds appear, seclect the largest and most perfectly formed one, and the plant should never be allowed to produce another bud to even the size of a pea. Thus with all the strength of the plant con centrated in one flower, and with all conditions favorable, flowers are produced pro-duced that will measure six, eight and even ten inches across." Rural Northwest. The farmers are commencing harvesting their grina, and in a day or two many acres will be cut. Second cutting of lucern is now being cut and stacked. The hot weather still hangs on and no storm has yet come to our rescue. |
