Show How is this from a Mexican standpoint: stand-point: "Many ardent free silver journals in the west of the United States are quoting the Mexican Herald in behalf of their cause. They are wholly welcome to draw from our armory any weapon they may choose to select and to use it with what vigor they possess. But it must be borne in mind that this journal is, above all things, not endeavoring to aid the cause of free silver in the United States; it might be a good thing for that great country, coun-try, but most assuredly it would be a bad thing for Mexico. Silver monometallism is making Mexico strong and wealthy; it is building up local industries; it is rendering us self reliant and emancipating us from' financial and industrial independence in-dependence on older countries. Hence we are for the silver dollars of Mexico, the dynamo which sends its force through our entire social mechanism. We do not wonder that American editors who see business stagnant, their readers out of employment em-ployment and a paralysis resting on affairs, advocate the adoption of 'the Mexican plan. We sincerely hope, however, that they will stick to gold and stay so for a quarter of a century more, Meantime Mexico will continue to grow rich on silver." Mohave County Miner. |
