Show Much Interest Attended During and at the Close of the Flag Contest The Flag Contest being conducted in the Duchesne school was Tery fit tlngly closed on Friday, February 21. Much interest was evidenced by both teachers and pupils and the results re-sults were highly satisfactory. I There was keen competition between the fifth and sixth grades for the highest average, and a special committee com-mittee consisting of Mrs. It. G. Por- ter, Mr. A. M. Todd, and Dr. W1. D. j Bishop judged the paiers and gave! the honor to the sixth grade I An out of door program was held at school Friday afternoon. The Gth grade had a position of honor and Leah Pnxton, who besides being a member of the sixth grade, had a one hundred per cent paper and was the student who raised the flag. During the ceremony all saluted and i then gave the Fledge of Allegiance. Mrs. Afton Crocker gave a brief presentation address which was re-1 sponded to by Principal Golden W. Johnstun who Is president of the Duchesne Unit. ' The student with the highest average av-erage received the flag for his grade. ! There, was an exception In the first and second grades, where a special questlonulre was prepared. In the first grade there were twelve pupils who could answer all fifty questions correctly and In the second grade 17 pupils. They each chose ji student to represent the group. I The students receiving the flags were : j Ninth and Tenth grades, Thelma Adams. Eighth grade, Merllne Paxton. Seventh grade. Jack O'Toole. Sixth grade, Eileen Currau. Fifth grude, Ruth Stromlerg,, Fourth grade, Brent Smith. Third grade, Francis Case, ' Second grade, Arlene Farr, First grade, Max Davis. The school orchestra played for the opening and closing songs America Am-erica nnd the Star Spangled Banner, as well us a march or two. Tho program was attended by many IMtrents and Legion and Auxiliary members. A different attitude toward the Flag has been established in tho school children that will never be forgotten, and witli the feellug of honor and respevt they have for their Flag and Country they cauuot but be better citizens.
