Show J t t Sa rJ t t t t t r rt rt r f r r c c rh r 1 r- r CI The Holy B Bible Belongs Exactly as Much to One Sex as to the Other By MAUDE ROYDEN H N British Woman Preacher By way of comment on United States Ambassador remarks to the effect that women have no souls it may be stated that the Holy Bible belongs exactly as much to one s x as to the other In Christs Christ's teaching there is not a word not a phrase which is especially adapted toone to toone toone one sex rather than the other In all the religions of the world there is sp special cial teaching about women as distinct from men except in the religion of Christ In Christs Christ's religion there is no teaching at all that is especially especial desi ed for There is list of of virtues which designed women no women are especially especially espe espe- ci lly to aim at as distinct from that list of virtues virtues' which is offered to men mell If I were were to take our Lords Lord's words out of their context in the Gospel ii and nail repeat them to any person wi who who had l ad never read the Gospel that person could not tell whether a given sentence was addressed to a woman or to a man If you leave leava out the actual words of address there is nothing in the essential character of any passage in our our Lords Lord's teaching which belongs to toone toone toone one sex more marc than to another There is not a sugg suggestion stion th that t women have a narrower sphere or a different different dif dif- ferent ideal from that of men Our Lord is the ideal not to one sex dif j or another not to one e class or another but to all humanity I |
