M Shelton took char charge e of the meeting and called upon Super Super- intend nt Moore to explain the reason reason rea- rea rea- rea reason I son for for- calling the meeting The Abject was to get an expression from the people as as to their views on the best method of meeting the present lems c confronting ng the s schools Mr Moore reported on the financial financial financial finan- finan finan finan- cial condition of the district and showed that the funds just received from the state would pay payoff off the no notes e amoun amounting ing to twenty thousand thousand and dollars which represent money borrowed to run the schools during the first two months of the year These funds would also provide for forthe forthe forthe the salaries of the teachers for the month of January There is still due from various sources enough torun to torun torun run the schools through February and March Teachers have contracted for eight months but the contracts contracts can be cancelled by thirty days notice and the object was to get the opinion opinion opinion ion of the people whether or not they thought notice should be given and the schools closed at the end of seven months On the other hand if they were to remain open for the full eight months how should the additional funds be raised I The discussion by hY the citizens was not lively but buta a motion was carried for the appointing of a committee to t to draft a resolution favoring a n special l election for the purpose of voting a special three mill tax for school purposes This resolution was to be presented to the school board Similar meetings have been held i in Altonah Roosevelt and Myton 1 Altonah and Roosevelt lt the favored th special tax while Myton favored the issuing by the school board of refunding warrants to the the amount of f the unpaid taxes |
