W Hill with two others had to pu put in a shot which caused a slide He was carried along with the earth into an old working His mates got down and succeeded In removing seven feet of earth from his head but they but they found it dangerous to continue as the earth was liable to come in and smother them They decided to put in a drive at the back backof I of the foot level After otter 17 hours of hard work they opened the wall at his head It then took three hours to remove the debris away to get him out the greatest care having to be ex exercised to prevent the loose stuff smothering him A rope was attached to Hill and at last he was pulled out amidst the hearty cheers of his fellow |
