Show Tunnel Sought to Reach Gold Deposit Cripple Creek. Colo. The plan calls for the digging of a tunnel five miles long to drain the gold mines In the Cripple Creek district and lowor the water level GOO to 700 feet. At present- mining operations are carried on as far down as the 2,400 foot level. Engineers estimate that vast bodies of gold ore lie beneath this level. In addition to freeing the mines of water, the tunnel would release water enough to irrigate 20,000. acres of the fertile Arkansas Arkan-sas valley between Canon City md Pueblo, Colo. An application for a loan of $1,000,000 to finance the undertaking under-taking has been approved by Gov. Ed. C. Johnson and Is now before the government officials In Washington. |
