Since the conference was divided into three parts, administrative, clothing and horticulture, director Peterson was accompanied by Miss Susie Sanford, clothing specialist and Arvil L, Stark, horticulturist, for Utah. In 1937 a committee composed of Director F. A. Anderson of Colorado and B. H. Crocheron director for California and Director Peterson was appointed to prepare and present a report on agriculture and home economics in the 11 western states. This was done and at the Lake Tahoe convention the report was reviewed. This report centered around the efforts of the extension service in reaching the farm population of the region. A review of the personnel conducting extension work was made as was a report of how well the information the workers have to offer is reaching the farm people. The conclusion was reached that more work must be done for our farmers and especially in boys and girls club work. A method of approach was devised which called for the development of a plan of work that will aid in solving the problems of farm people. This plan is to be correlated with the efforts of existing government agencies that are operating in the agricultural field. Director Peterson reviewed the physical measurements of the region including topography, climate, population, livestock, irrigation, reclamation, Indian lands and national parks. He stated that the western region comprises approximately 40 per cent of the total area of the United States. Ten of the 11 states were represented, New Mexicos director being detained because of illness. Ltah State Mrs. W. G. By Gentry The D. U.
